Lena has worked in over 60 countries in an international career in both the private and public sector. She was a senior advisor at the World Bank in Washington DC, CEO of Scottish Development International and spent 8 years as CEO of Scottish Enterprise , Scotland’s main economic development agency, where she led a network of 30 locations around the world. Lena now has a wide-ranging portfolio of non-executive, advisory, investment and academic roles. She serves on the Group Board of Natwest plc, Intertek Group plc., Argentex plc, Scottish Power Renewables Ltd and is the Chairman of Accountancy firm Chiene+Tate.. She is an active Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde Business School and invests in and supports young high growth potential companies. Lena is an ambassador and fundraiser for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow and advisor to the Beatson Cancer Charity. She is a member of the National Advisory Board for MCR pathways which supports young people on the edges of the care system to realise their full potential and has served as a Trustee on many not for profit organisations including over 10 years with the Princes Youth Business Trust. She was appointed in January 2015 by The First Minister, Nicola Surgeon, to form and Chair Scotland’s Energy Jobs Taskforce, the Scottish Government’s main response to the Oil price crisis and for 8 years served on Scotland’s Financial Services Advisory Board.
Lena was awarded a CBE in the Birthday Honours List in 2015 for services to the economy. She also holds Honorary degrees from the University of Strathclyde, Caledonian University and Glasgow University. She was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in May 2019 and is a Licentiate of the Institute of Banking.
